Apostolates

The main apostolate of our community is the care of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Peckham.

Our canons also serve in a wide range of other ministries. For example, one canon is the Catholic chaplain to Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, and another works for the Diocesan Tribunal. We engage in other work, too, within and beyond the Archdiocese of Southwark. This includes retreat giving, psychological work, as well as advice and support in the field of canon law. One of our canons is the chaplain to a household in Yorkshire.

Abbot Hugh Allan O.Praem., is the Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Falkland Islands and Ecclesiastical Superior of the Mission sui juris of Saint Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha. Find out more about this ministry. He is also the Episcopal Vicar for Religious in the Archdiocese.

The contemplative aspects of our vocation also involve much labour. To this end the community is served by a dedicated cantor as we strive to make our worship of Almighty God the most solemn and beautiful as possible. We chant the choral office at various times during the day (see our Horarium) and sing our conventual Mass (8.00am weekdays; 8.30am Saturdays; 10.00am Sundays). The Conventual Mass on Sundays is accompanied by a number of choral scholars.

As Canons of the Order of Prémontré we hope our life still bears witness to those first hopes and prayers of Our Holy Fathers Norbert and Augustine.
