Apostolates

The main apostolate of our community is the care of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Peckham.

Our canons also serve in a wide range of other ministries, for example, as school and university chaplains and other work with and for the Archdiocese of Southwark. Also, one of our priests is a chaplain to a convent of Dominican sisters in the New Forest and another is a parish priest in Cornwall. Our Prelate, Abbot Hugh Allan O.Praem., is the Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Prefecture of the Falkland Islands and Ecclesiastical Superior of the Mission sui juris of Saint Helena, Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha. Find out more about this ministry.

The contemplative aspects of our vocation also involve much labour. To this end the community is served by a dedicated cantor as we strive to make our worship of Almighty God the most solemn and beautiful as possible. We chant the choral office at various times during the day (see our Horarium) and sing our conventual Mass at 8.00am. We are also fortunate to have students for the priesthood, preparing for ordination and solemn vows.

As Canons of the Order of Prémontré we hope our life still bears witness to those first hopes and prayers of Our Holy Fathers Norbert and Augustine.
