One of our readers asked what our choir dress is composed of. In summer the habit is worn with almutium (for the solemnly professed) and biretta. In some communities the biretta is worn only by priests, but in our canonry the brietta is received at first profession, as was the custom at Premontre (cf. the last Processionale issued from Premontre). In winter we begin to use the heavy white choir capes. Rochets are worn at both Lauds and Vespers. The almutium is a piece of fur worn on the arm or else around the shoulders. In some communities and congregations it is worn as a hood which reflects its original usage.
