St. Frederick and Exams

Posted on 19th January 2011 by

As many students will be taking their examinations at this time of year - including our own students for the priesthood - it is perhaps a good time to mention St. Frederick († 1175). Frederick was abbot of Mariëngaarde in Holland. Mariëngaarde was famed for its seminary and St. Frederick for his skill as a teacher - because of this it has become the tradition in a number of our communities for students of the Order to invoke St. Frederick whilst preparing for examinations. Prayer to St. Frederick before Examinations

O Good St. Frederick, whilst on earth you laboured without rest for the sake of your brethren. Devoted to their spiritual and intellectual growth you made them worthy priests and followers of Jesus Christ. Grant us the grace we implore through your intercession, that in our studies we may always seek to find and to mediate upon Christ, the Lord of All. Pray for us especially now as we take our examinations, that crowned with success we may continue to labour for that yet more glorious crown. Amen. Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us!
